Episode 8: Ride or Die

It’s a common phrase.  We love it.  Our ride or die besties, the people that we live life with.  Can’t imagine life without. Ride or Die.

So, it’s time for this blog to end. The ride is coming to a gentle stop. No crashing. No flying off a cliff.

This blog, well, it came about because of a conversation that Emma and I had about a year ago.  She asked me to write something about her, and I really didn’t have a reason to say anything but yes.  Did I know how to blog?  No.  Did I know how to put pictures in a blog? No. Did I know what it was going to be about?  No.

But Emma.  I knew Emma. She’s a ride-or-die kind of person.  She has a way to have fun that helps you have fun—she makes boring people jealous and confused by her.  She brings herself, fully, to whatever she’s going to do. How can she have such a good time when there are so many tough things happening?

She wasn’t alone.

Well, I did mention she has superpowers.

Emma entered ninth grade with Sia and Brooke, living in the contracted worldview of middle school.  High school will be impossible.  All those scary seniors.  The huge building.

And every morning, these three girls dragged themselves out of bed, and piled into a car—one by one, each saw the other at the beginning of the school day and at the end.  A minivan. An SUV. A truck.  Whatever they piled into, they piled out of, each to explore their new life in high school. Yet, the separate interests of their lives--whether it was softball or boys or even a different class schedule—couldn’t break the gravity of their friendship.

They began ninth grade together.

They spent ninth grade together.

They ended ninth grade together.

Talk about superpowers.
